Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź in association with ICOM Costume and ICOM Poland invites you to ‘PICKING UP THE THREADS. FASHION EXHIBITION TOUR IN POLAND’ in ŁÓDŹ, 7-8 July 2025.
Join us in Poland to discover Łódź – a key centre of Polish fashion and the textile industry, as well as the home of the renowned Feature Film Studio, which earned the city the nickname “HollyŁódź”.
We invite you to explore three fashion exhibitions at the Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź, and an additional exhibition on the history of Polish cinema at the National Centre for Film Culture (NCKF), featuring an extensive selection of film costumes.
PROGRAM
DAY 1 Monday, 7 July, 2025
Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź

- 12:30 – Welcome at the museum entrance
- 13:00–14:30 – Guided tour of the exhibition “Arkadius. Powerful Emotions. Confrontations” with designer Arkadiusz Weremczuk (“Arkadius”) and curator Marcin Różyc. The exhibition presents the work of Arkadius, a Polish fashion designer active in London in the early 2000s, and one of the most influential Polish designers of the post-communist transformation era. It explores themes of identity, emotion, and political messaging in fashion.
- 14:30–16:00 – Lunch break (at participants’ own expense)
- 16:00–17:30 – Guided tour of the permanent exhibition “CITY – FASHION – MACHINE”, a historical overview of the textile industry in Łódź and its influence on urban development. The exhibition shows how clothing production evolved from craft to industrial scale.
- 17:30-18:30 – Coffee break at the museum
- 18:30 – Transfer and visit to the studio of contemporary fashion designer Tomasz Armada

DAY 2 Tuesday, 8 July, 2025

- 10:00-10:30 – Presentation of Machines in Motion, including six running looms from the turn of the 19th and 20th century and two looms from the 1970s.
- 10:30–12:00 – Guided tour of the exhibition “The Fashion System: Clothes in Strategies of Violence and Survival Tactics in the Łódź Ghetto” with curator Karolina Sulej.
- 12:00–13:30 – Networking reception at the museum
- 13:00 – Transfer to the National Centre for Film Culture (NCKF) (Address: ul. Targowa 1/3, 90-022 Łódź, Poland, Website: ec1lodz.pl/narodowe-centrum-kultury-filmowej)
- 14:00–15:00 – Guided tour of the exhibition “Cinema Polonia” at the NCKF, presenting the history of Polish cinema through a wide selection of original costumes and multimedia content.

Transportation
Trains:
For participants coming from Kraków, we recommend arriving one day earlier. There are direct Intercity train connections from Kraków Główny to Łódź Kaliska or Łódź Widzew stations.
On Sunday, we suggest:
- Train departing at 14:17, arriving at 17:15 at Łódź Widzew
- Or train departing at 15:48, arriving at 19:06 at Łódź Kaliska
On Monday, we recommend:
- Train departing at 9:22, arriving at 12:14 at Łódź Kaliska
For those coming from Warsaw, there are many trains from Warszawa Centralna to Łódź Fabryczna. We suggest the following:
- Regional trains at 8:18 (arrival 9:49) and 9:48 (arrival 11:22)
- Intercity train at 9:14 (arrival 10:19)
On Tuesday afternoon, return trains from Łódź Fabryczna to Warszawa Centralna include regional trains departing at 15:32 and 16:34, with other options available until 21:34.
There are also two Intercity trains from Łódź Kaliska to Kraków Główny, departing at 15:52 and 19:26.
Attention: Łódź has three different railway stations: Łódź Fabryczna, Łódź Kaliska, and Łódź Widzew. They are on different routes, so please double-check your train connections carefully to avoid confusion.
Public transport in Łódź
Public transport from any railway station to the Central Museum of Textiles takes about 30 minutes. The National Centre for Film Culture (NCKF) is located near Łódź Fabryczna station.
To the Central Museum of Textiles (Piotrkowska 282)
- From Łódź Fabryczna:
Tram 8, 10, or 11 → Piotrkowska Centrum (~15 min), then 5 min walk.
Taxi: ~15 min, ~25 PLN. - From Łódź Kaliska:
Tram 2, 3, 6, or 10 → Piotrkowska Centrum (~10–12 min), then 5 min walk.
Taxi: ~10–15 min, ~20 PLN.
To the National Centre for Film Culture (Targowa 1/3)
- From Łódź Fabryczna:
5 min walk (NCKF is next to the station). - From Łódź Kaliska:
Tram 8 or 10 → Łódź Fabryczna (~15 min), then 5 min walk.
Taxi: ~15 min, ~30 PLN.
