The Opportunity

Kent State University seeks an experienced, forward‐thinking, and creative individual with curatorial and exhibition experience to provide leadership and direction for the Kent State University Museum. The KSU Museum Director is a 12‐month full‐time administrative position reporting to the Dean of the College of the Arts.

Job Description

Collaborate with staff, university personnel, national and international colleagues and donors on acquisitions development, the care of the collection, and the education of the public and university communities about the museum as a relevant resource to a 21st century audience; provide leadership in fundraising, marketing, and membership; supervise a staff of five, including the museum curator, collections manager and registrar, exhibition designer and preparator, the head of security and visitor services, and an administrative assistant.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in a dress/fashion related area or other relevant field; seven years’ experience in museum administration; significant supervisory experience; evidence of success as a curator and program developer; documented leadership in fund‐raising, donor cultivation, working with volunteers and diversity initiatives; strong written and interpersonal communication skills; knowledge of personal computer applications, budgeting and strategic planning.

Preferred Qualifications

A terminal degree in a costume/fashion related area. Qualifications, experience, and credentials may be considered for appropriate faculty rank.
